President Obama Rails Against Special Interest Lobbyists & Influence Peddlers
PHOENIX – Fred DuVal, Democrat candidate for governor of Arizona and lifelong lobbyist, has actually built his career catering to special interests, not serving as the consensus builder he claims to be. In light of his lack of awareness of his own actions, Chairman Robert Graham of the Arizona Republican Party thought it useful to share with Arizonans what even President Barack Obama thinks about DuVal’s chosen livelihood.
“There is too much at stake in Arizona today to even consider electing a career lobbyist to lead our state, especially one like Fred DuVal who’s been hiding the truth about his past activities and relationships,” said Robert Graham, Chairman of the Arizona Republican Party. “DuVal made a living as a hired gun for powerful special interests, and that’s not the kind of governor Arizona voters are looking for.
President Barack Obama On Special Interest Lobbyists:
Barack Obama Said He Will Free The Executive Branch From Special Interest Influence. “Close the Revolving Door on Former and Future Employers: No political appointees in the Obama-Biden administration will be permitted to work on regulations or contracts directly and substantially related to their prior employer for two years.” (Website, The Obama-Biden Plan, Accessed 10/14/14)
Obama Campaigned Saying That He Would Create A Centralized Lobbying Database. “Obama and Biden will create a centralized Internet database of lobbying reports, ethics records, and campaign finance filings in a searchable, sortable and downloadable format.” (Website, The Obama-Biden Plan, Accessed 10/14/14)
Obama Banned Gifts From Lobbyists To Executive Employees. “In my first year in office, we pushed back on that power by implementing historic reforms to get rid of the influence of those special interests … We barred gifts from federal lobbyists to executive branch officials.” (Press Release, “President Obama Vows To Continue Standing Up To The Special Interests On Behalf Of The American People,” President Barak Obama, 1/23/10)
Obama Wanted To End Pay For Play Contract Abuse. “End Abuse of No-Bid Contracts: Barack Obama and Joe Biden will end abuse of no-bid contracts by requiring that nearly all contract orders over $25,000 be competitively awarded.” (Website, The Obama-Biden Plan, Accessed 10/14/14)
Fred DuVal: Serial Influence Peddler:
With His Political Patron Having Moved On, DuVal Turned To Lobbying. “DuVal struck out on his own after Babbitt left office. In the late 1980s, he joined a lobbying firm with a cast of characters still known today as heavyweights in the political arena – Chuck Coughlin, Kevin DeMenna, Jason Rose, Robert Robb and others.” (Jeremy Duda, “DuVal Grew Up With Public Service,” Arizona Capitol Times, 9/26/14)
After The Clinton Administration, DuVal Went Back To Lobbying. “And once he left the Clinton administration, DuVal said [his] style again served him well as a lobbyist.” (Jeremy Duda, “DuVal Grew Up With Public Service,” Arizona Capitol Times, 9/26/14)
And When Elected Office Didn’t Work Out, DuVal Once Again Turned To Lobbying. “After his 2002 campaign, DuVal worked as a lobbyist…” (Jeremy Duda, “DuVal Grew Up With Public Service,” Arizona Capitol Times, 9/26/14)
